‘Volunteering improves mental health and well-being’

Volunteering improves mental health, well-being and self-esteem.  That’s according to the results of a national survey to coincide with National Volunteer Week 2017.

National Volunteering Week is an annual event which showcases the work done by volunteers across the country, and raises awareness of how other people can get involved in volunteering.

Cavan chef Neven Maguire officially launched Volunteer Week last month, and this year’s the focus is on the impact volunteering has on the volunteer themselves. Sinéad Keenan from the Monaghan Volunteer Centre says those who choose to give, often get a lot back.
