In Division 2 final replay of the Lidl national ladies football league 3-15 to 0-11 in Birr. Westmeath, Division 2 runners-up last year and in 2014, finally gained promotion to the top flight, capping a remarkable rise in recent years. The Lake County were Division 4 winners in 2011, claimed Division 3 honours a year later and are now preparing for Division 1 fare next year. Leona Archibold was there top scorer with 1-06 while Aishling Doonan scored 0-06 of Cavans total.
Cavan had dominated the game last weekend but never reached the same height this time around. Westmeath aided by a strong breeze were 2-11 to 0-04 up at half time and Cavan couldn’t draw back in that lead, next up for Cavan is clash with Monaghan in the Ulster championship.

Tipperary booked their place in Division 2 next season with a victory in their division 3 final replay against Wexford. They won by 0-15 to 1-10.
Sligo defeated Leitrim by 2-14 to 3-08 in Shane McGettigan Park in Drumshambo in the Connacht intermediate ladies football championship. With a strong wind in aid of Sligo the Yeats County led at half time by 2-07 to 0-03 and they were ahead by 2-12 to 0-05 going into the final quarter when Leitrim ignited a comeback but Sligo held their nerve to win out by 3 points.
