This week marked the 44th anniversary of the death of Senator Billy Fox.
The 35-year-old Fine Gael politician was shot dead by a group of gunmen on March 11th, 1974 while visiting his girlfriend near the townland of Tircooney in Monaghan.
Five members of the provisional IRA were subsequently convicted of his murder.
Senator Billy Fox was a serving member of the Oireachtas from 1969 until his death and was the only member of the Oireachtas to be killed during 'The Troubles'.
