Homelessness, mental health issues and fake news are dominating the entries for this year's BT Young Scientist and Technology exhibition.

Over one thousand secondary school students have entered the competition and previous winners have gone on to become billionaires.

Students from St Bricin's college, Belturbet County Cavan are among those setting up at the RDS this morning – we got in contact with the school about their project called ‘Facebook depression’

They surveyed students from schools across the region about the use of social media and they discovered that while teenagers were positive about facebook and other such apps they’re spending too much time on it which is having a negative impact on people’s moods.

The study also revealed that international students simply ‘’can’t understand the obsession Irish kids have with social media’’
