The Minister for Public Expenditure says the fishing and agri-food sectors will be among those to benefit from €1 billion Brexit fund.

The EU allocation is to reflect how Ireland's been among the countries hardest hit by the UK's departure.

Ireland's allocation of just over a billion euro represents a quarter of the entire fund.

The Brexit Adjustment Reserve's been set up to help countries hardest hit by the UK leaving the EU.

Public Expenditure Minister Michael McGrath says plans will be set out in the coming weeks on how that money will be spent.

Among the areas to benefit will be fisheries, supports for the agri-food and enterprise sectors and infrastructure in ports and airports.

The Irish Farmers Association wants the agri-food sector to be central to any decisions - and says it'll be making a strong case for funding to go directly to farmers when the impact is felt of the current trade issues.
