A local Aontú representative is calling for a complete overhaul of the recruitment of foster parents.
Olivia Larkin is a foster carer based in Co Monaghan.
With the many hundreds of children in state care, Olivia says there is a need to completely rethink the care system in a bid to finally provide the real support and help children need and deserve.
Olivia believes the recent expose by RTE into the shocking treatment of children in state care points to a deep malaise within the system and it is a desperate dereliction of duty to children.
She is concerned over the lack of urgency to change how the care needs of very vulnerable children are managed.
