When it comes to eating well and getting all those vitamins and minerals – the advice is to eat more fresh, whole foods and consume fewer processed products.

We’re talking fruit, vegetables, fresh meat, chicken and fish.

It sounds straightforward enough, but according to a study in the Journal of Public health - the Irish shopping basket contains around 45 percent ultra processed foods – making us the third highest consumer behind Britain and Germany.

Yes - we’re relying on factory made food – with high levels of salt on salt and sugar – to give us nourishment – surely a worrying indicator for what the next generation will be using?

Cathriona McKiernan lives in Ballyconnell – she ran ‘café rialto’ there for around 6 years – she’s also a mum of three and a food lover – even growing her own vegetables
