The first Covid-19 vaccine at Cavan General Hospital is to be administered this afternoon.
Meanwhile, two residential care facilities in the county will be beginning their vaccination programmes tomorrow.
It’s understood that a frontline staff member will be the first person at the hospital to receive the vaccine today.
There’s said to be an excitement within the building ahead of this significant moment in the fight against Covid-19 locally .
Ireland is on course to vaccinate 35,000 people by the end of the week, almost 15,000 more than the initial projection.
Meanwhile, two long-term care homes in Cavan will also be giving the vaccine this week.
Across tomorrow and Friday, residents and staff at Esker Lodge Nursing Home and the Breffni Care Centre will be administered the Pfizer BioN Tech vaccination.
The HSE plans to roll out vaccines to all 582 nursing homes in the country, public and private, over the next six weeks.
Vaccinator teams will administer doses at each location, making two separate visits, three weeks apart.
