HEAR MORE: Ambulance personnel in Cavan and Monaghan strike over union recognition

Staff picketed outside Monaghan and Cavan ambulance stations today as part of a nationwide 10 hour strike by members of the Psychiatric Nurses Association. 500 staff members walked off the job today between 7am to 5pm in a row over union recognition.

The HSE says it already recognises three unions for National Ambulance Service Staff, and feels engaging with another isn’t in the interest of the public or workers. The army was drafted in to deal with emergencies, with PNA still providing life-saving cover if needed.

Ambulance branch Chairperson of the PNA Sinead McGrath joined members at the gates to St Davnet’s in Monaghan town for today’s industrial action. She spoke to our reporter Aaron McElroy and began by giving background to the work stoppage.
