Four students from Largy College are set to take part in the ‘Concern national debating final’. Ruth Madden, Abigail McGuirk, Aaron McMahon and Carla Rafferty qualified for the decider after defeating Mayo’s Ballinrobe Community School in the semi final of the competition.
The final is set for May 1st in the Helix, where they will meet Sandyford Park School from Dublin and they will debate over the motion ‘China in Africa is more than ‘messiah’’, in which the Monaghan school will be taking the opposing side.
If Largy College do claim the title on May 1st, it won’t be the first time the school has tasted success in the competition, having already won 1st prize back in 2014. They spoke to Eddie Butler on The Wider View this week:
