HEAR MORE: Plague threatens Crayfish in local region

An investigation is underway in Co Cavan over a potential outbreak of Crayfish plague.

 

It was reported that a number of crayfish were found dead in a river near Virginia, and DNA tests are now being carried out to see if the plague caused their death.

There are a number outbreaks of Crayfish Plague in Ireland, including Lough Brusker and it is still unknown how the disease was introduced to Ireland.

Aaron McElroy spoke to Brian Nelson from the National Parks and Wildlife Service who started by explaining a bit more about what cray fish actually are:
