An investigation is underway in Co Cavan over a potential outbreak of Crayfish plague.
It was reported that a number of crayfish were found dead in a river near Virginia, and DNA tests are now being carried out to see if the plague caused their death.

There are a number outbreaks of Crayfish Plague in Ireland, including Lough Brusker and it is still unknown how the disease was introduced to Ireland.
