A local TD has reiterated calls for a public swimming pool in Carrickmacross.
Matt Carthy has again pressed the government to deliver to deliver a public facility in his hometown.
Last week Deputy Carthy appealed to the Minister of State for Sport, Charlie McConalogue to work with Monaghan County Council to make this longstanding aspiration a reality.
He urged the Minister to ensure that the new round of funding for swimming pools is opened as quickly as possible, noting the local long-held desire for the public facility.
Speaking to Northern Sound Deputy Carthy said the appetite is there for the pool.
"We've had, thanks to the efforts of Cllr. Colm Carty and others, a pop-up pool in the town for the past number of months and the period of time that that's going to be there has been extended precisely because the demand has been so great. So there's clearly a huge surge in support for some activities generally and I would contend that Carrickmacross needs that facility. So I've been pressing the Minister for Sport and other senior Ministers to engage proactively with Monaghan County Council to deliver this project. We've had a feasibility study conducted by the local authority which shows and reinforces that the demand is there. What we now need is the political impetus to make this happen."
