Castleblayney Pride is taking place from today through until Sunday.
The weekend is set to create positive visibility and representation for LGBT+ people and communities, with events for adults, families and the wider community.
Outcomers is an LGBT+ support service based in Dundalk, covering the north-east including Cavan and Monaghan.
Outcomers along with local LGBT+ members are involved in the planning of the event. Castleblayney Pride builds on the work that Outcomers do in the region by creating welcoming local spaces where people can connect, celebrate Pride and support inclusion.
According to Bernadine Quinn from Outcomers, the event is about visibility.
Bernadine revealed that in the past couple of years, pride events like Castleblayney have a security presence due to the rise in abuse towards the gay community.
She says regional pride events have never been as important and local people should get behind this event and show support to the LGBT+ community in the locality.
