A local councillor says her thoughts and sympathies are with the family of the man found dead in Cavan Town.
A forensic examination is now underway at an apartment block in Cavan Town following the discovery of a body.
The body of the man aged in his 40's was discovered at residential property on James Connolly Street shortly after 3am.
The scene is now being examined by experts from the Technical Bureau.
Gardaí say the results of that will determine the course of the investigation.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Fine Gael councillor Niamh Brady said her thoughts are with the man's family at this sad time:
"We woke up to this news this morning and it's very sad. The apartments are located in a very busy part, bustling part of the town, but you know at the moment there's very little known about the investigation and we can just see the guards have all gone in there now so we just have to think of the family now and our thoughts and sympathies go out to them."
