A Cavan Senator has warned that youth services are under increasing pressure.
Speaking in the Seanad, Pauline Tully highlighted the benefits of youth work, including building confidence, supporting mental health and encouraging community involvement among young people.
However, she said insufficient funding is impacting staffing, recruitment and the delivery of services.
The National Youth Council of Ireland is calling for an additional €13 million in funding to stabilise the system.
Senator Tully also raised concerns about delays bringing in the Opportunities for Youth strategy, warning progress will be limited without proper investment.
Speaking in the Seanad, she outlined the issue locally without increased capital funding.
