A Cavan Senator has raised issues related to special needs assistants in after school facilities.
Speaking in the Seanad last week, Pauline Tully highlighted the issue.
She said she had been contacted by a parent of twins, who both have autism, who are starting school in September.
As both parents work they requested the children be taken to the after-school facility nearby which collects children from the school.
The facility is willing to take the children but is concerned that it does not have sufficient support to care for the children properly.
Senator Tully contacted a number of providers in the area, all said the same thing, which is that they want to include more children with additional needs but are not in a position to do so.
Speaking in the Seanad said that it is a form of discrimination.
