A local St. Vincent de Paul representative has warned of rising pressures on families as children return to school.
Madeleine Ui Mhealoid of the Cavan branch of SVP says while free books and meals have helped, the cost of uniforms and other factors remain a major financial burden on people.
She is emphasising that this time of year is particularly tough on families with back-to-school considerations.
The group is calling on government to abolish exam fees and support generic school uniforms.
In its pre-budget submission, the group also calls for action on heating costs and to tackle child poverty.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan show this morning, Madeleine explained the idea of a generic uniform.
