Clarity surrounding former Minister Heather Humphreys making a presidential bid will be forthcoming in the coming hours.
That's according to Fine Gael Co Cavan senator Joe O'Reilly.
Mr O'Reilly says the next number of hours should bring clarity surrounding a possible bid from the former Cavan-Monaghan TD.
Fine Gael's executive council will meet at 7.30pm this evening to consider their candidate options, with MEP Sean Kelly also under consideration. Senator O'Reilly says Heather Humphreys would bring so much to the role, adding that she would be a force for unity on the island of Ireland.
The local Fine Gael Senator believes Ms Humphreys will put her name forward. Since the withdrawal of Mairead McGuiness from the race to the Aras, sights have firmly turned to Heather Humphreys.
The local woman has narrowly overtaken Catherine Connolly as the public's preferred presidential candidate, according to a new poll. It comes as Ms. Humphreys says she is "seriously considering" joining the race,
