A local councillor has said that the swimming pool in Carrickmacross is "not just a dream", as the proposed site for the pool was revealed this week.
That's according to local Cllr. Peter Conlon.
The need and the desire for a leisure facility in the South Monaghan Town has been highlighted for decades.
The site being further assessed as the preferred location is adjacent to the CTEK buildings at the junction of Riverside and Oriel roads in the town.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr. Conlon explained that countless people around the town have contributed to the project.
He said that the project has "never been at this stage before," and that money has been set aside by Monaghan County Council.
Cllr. Conlon said: "This is actually as close to concrete in the ground as regards to a swimming pool in Carrickmacross as we're going to get.
"We've never been at this stage before. Every other time, it was people wanting it, or people calling for it.
"This is actually a dedicated site, we have money put aside in the council budget to these projects, which will actually facilitate us going to government to get funding to deliver this project in the next few years.
"It's not just a dream, it's on paper, it's how we can make it a reality," Cllr. Conlon added.
