A local councillor has commended the good work done by Gardaí following a drugs seizure in Monaghan.
Alan Johnston comments come as a man is due to appear in court this morning following the discovery of €5.25M worth of cocaine in Monaghan on Friday.
He was charged last night after being arrested on Friday and will appear before a sitting of Monaghan District Court at 10:30am.
The woman who was arrested has been released without charge and a file will be prepared for the DPP.
The discovery was made as part of ongoing investigations targeting organised crime under Operation Tara.
Personnel attached to the Garda National Drugs & Organised Crime Bureau supported by the Dublin Crime Response Team conducted an intervention of a number of vehicles and searched a business premise in Co. Monaghan on Friday.
Cllr Johnston says this seizure definitely makes Monaghan streets safer.
