A second Gaelscoil is set to be opened in Co. Cavan
It was confirmed yesterday, that Corlea National School, outside of Kingscourt, will re-designate as a Gaelscoil.
The decision was made with the permission of the school's patron, Bishop Deenihan.
Speaking to Northern Sound, local Cllr. Stiofán Conaty welcomed the news.
Cllr. Conaty said that the decision will give parents in the area the option to give their children an education through the medium of Irish.
The councillor highlighted the benefits of being raised with two languages.
Cllr. Conaty said: "Immense benefits come from a bilingual education. Not just from speaking Irish, my heart is really in the cause for an Irish language.
"For any child to be brought up with two languages, there's major benefits for that. We are in the middle of a revival here. For children from the age of four or five to be thrown into that, it will have major benefits.
"So I would encourage the community to row in behind this school, and this project, and ensure that its a success in the future," Cllr. Conaty added.
