Cavan County Council is to purchase Stewart's Shop Killeshandra for community use.
The decision comes as Minister Dara Calleary awards €240,000 to Cavan County Council for the purchase of the former retail premises in Killeshandra known as Stewart's Shop for development as a multi-use community space.
This funding is being provided under the Building and Land Acquisition Measure of the Town and Village Renewal Scheme.
The repurposed building and adjoining grounds will facilitate the extension of the community garden, the development of a cultural centre and the outbuildings will be developed for use by local groups including the Tidy Towns Group and Hen's and Men's Sheds.
The traditional appearance of this former retail unit will be maintained.
Local TD Brendan Smith has complimented the local community groups who work extremely hard in the best interests of Killeshandra.
Speaking to Northern Sound he welcomed the funding.
