Children finishing 6th class in 10 counties don't have the option to go to a local Gaelscoil for their second level education.
Department of Education figures released to TD Barry Ward - and seen by the Irish Examiner - show Cavan, Clare, Laois, Leitrim, Louth, Longford, Offaly, Roscommon, Westmeath and Sligo don't offer a secondary school through Irish.
Elsewhere in the country the numbers also show a big drop off in pupils going from primary schools taught through Irish to second level gaelscoileanna.
