A local TD has supported a bill calling for the government to get planning for Irish unity underway.
Sinn Féin introduced the Private Members Bill into the Dáil yesterday.
In a post on social media yesterday, local TD Cathy Bennett welcomed the news.
She said that the bill will legislate for the planning and preparation for constitutional change and Irish reunification.
It will also allow all TDs, political parties, and the Government to formally come into the debate.
Deputy Bennett believes that as we approach the 30th anniversry of the Good Friday Agreement in 2028, it is important to recognise the scale of transformation across the island of Ireland.
She said that Sinn Féin's Bill will provide the Dáil and the Irish Government with the unprecedented opportunity to commence preparation and planning for constitutional change and the reunification of Ireland that must be grasped.
