The launch of the 'Resilient Neighbours PeacePlus Project' has been welcomed locally.
€2.3m has been secured for cross-border emergency preparedness.
The Resilient Neighbours PeacePlus Project, led by Fermanagh & Omagh District Council and Monaghan County Council, with assistance of the Office of Emergency Planning (ROI) and The Executive Office (NI), will strengthen how emergencies are planned for and managed across the border.
Over the next 3 years, the project will research international good practice to improve cross-border cooperation, develop a shared emergency risk register and deliver joint training to improve emergency response and support community leaders.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr Richard Truell welcomed the major funding for this cross-border project.
He said by working together, we can ensure communities are safer, better prepared and more resilient in the face of future emergencies.
