Monaghan Town Co-Op has closed its doors one last time this evening.
The local business has employed generations of local people during its 100 years in existence.
It was certainly part of the fabric of the local economy for over a century.
Lakeland Dairies said it is committed to delivering sustainable prosperity to their 3,200 farm families by ensuring that they are the right-sized, lean, and efficient, while offering added-value products to customers in over 100 global markets.
In November of 2023, the company made the announcement that three of their plants would cease operations and one of the them was the Monaghan Town facility.
Local TD, Cathy Bennett described the closure as “A Dark Day” for Monaghan Town as Lakeland Dairies (Monaghan Town Co-op) closes its doors.
She said herself and her colleague Deputy Matt Carthy will lobby the government to seek an alternative Agri - Food business to invest in the town.
