A local councillor has welcomed news that new EV charging points are coming to Clones.
The points will be located in the car-park in Fitzpatrick's Square on the Newtownbutler Road.
Monaghan County Council gave a presentation to local councillors at this week's meeting of Ballybay- Clones MD.
Sinn Féin councillor, Pat Treanor welcomed the news.
An EU regulation for alternative fuel sets national targets across EU member states for publicly accessible charging infrastructure.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr. Treanor explained that the infrastructure is needed to allow for EV vehicles.
He said that it will be a great benefit to Clones.
Cllr. Treanor told Northern Sound: "I was recently with a couple who were travelling from Armagh down to Galway, and they were checking their Google Maps to see what towns have EV stations in them, because they were going to have to stop. So it is a good bit of infrastructure for Clones to have.
"There is no point in government policy pushing people to move to electric cars if the infrastructure is not in place, and that's one of the biggest complaints you would have from someone who has already invested in electric motor, that they find it difficult to travel. They have a lot of planning to do to travel any distance," Cllr. Treanor added.
