Flood modelling confirms parts of canal at risk

This was done in conjunction with consultants, and presented to the TII for review

Flood modelling carried out by Monaghan County Council has confirmed that 4.1km of the preferred route for the Ulster Canal Greenway is at risk of flooding.

A report completed by Monaghan County Council confirmed that an area on the Clones Smithboro greenway may be at risk.

Alternative construction techniques to provide a flood resilient Greenway, with accompanying cost estimates, have been developed by Monaghan County Council.

This was done in conjunction with consultants, and presented to the TII for review.

TII indicated that the current National Design Standards for Greenways are being updated, with flood risk management included within the process.

The council indicated, that when standards have been updated, they will be used to assess proposed solution for the Clones- Smithboro project.
