The Deputy General Secretary of the Garda Representative Association has expressed concerns that the personal details of Gardaí have been published online.
It follows accusations that Gardaí's home addresses were published on social media, following the recent fuel protests.
Prior to being appointed to the GRA, James Morrisroe worked in the Cavan/Monaghan division of An Garda Síochána.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show this morning, Mr. Morrisroe explained the situation.
He said that it is a "sign of the age we're in" and that there could be 200,000 hits on some of the posts.
Mr. Morrisroe said he is very concerned for the GRA's members and their families.
He said no one should have to put up with abuse.
Mr. Morrisroe said: "It is very concerning for our members, and we'd be very very concerned about our members families. Nobody should have to put up with that. When it gets to the members families, themselves and their families, it is unacceptable.
"It is something that has come to the fore recently, with the protests. It would have a serious toll on the member. The member would feel a bit guilty, because of the job they're in, that they would subject their family to that.
"All we can do is push it with the commissioner, push it with the legislator. Hopefully, there will be investigations and prosecutions stemming from it," he added.
