A former RTE journalist has reflected on the time he spent covering the conviction of Aaron Brady who murdered Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe.
The Kilnaleck native was shot dead in the line of duty during an armed robbery outside the Lordship Credit Union in County Louth on the 25th of January 2013.
Barry Cummins spent 23 years at RTE before deciding to leave the broadcaster this week to explore new opportunities.
Speaking on today's Joe Finnegan Show, Mr Cummins noted that the trial of killer Aaron Brady took place during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020.
It was the only trial that continued at the Central Criminal Court during that time and the jury had to adhere to social distancing rules.
Due to the nature of the crime committed, Mr Cummins said the judge was "determined" to honour Adrian Donohoe's memory and ensure that justice would be served despite the challenges of the pandemic.
