A local councillor says additional housing developments planned for the Monaghan area is a positive sign.
Cllr Sean Conlon expressed his confidence for robust economic development in Monaghan Town.
Despite this, he warned that we can create industry and additional employment in Monaghan, however that must be complimented when it comes to offering employees housing.
"Thankfully looking forward, housing supply is going from strength to strength," according to the local representative.
Cllr Conlon referred to the "substantial development" of 8 acres of land on the Clones Road for the development of 68 houses in the townland of Cornacassa.
He added that "it's not all about social housing" and also outlined a number of developments planned for the private sector.
Cllr Conlon told Northern Sound: "There is also a large uptake in private developments going on. On the Glen Road to Cootehill Road there’s a planning application for 51 houses opposite Sloan’s spar shop.
"Further up that Cootehill Road there are also 45 houses being proposed and a developer will take them on in the coming year as well as 34 houses going ahead in Killygoan this year. We see on the way out towards the Four Season Hotel that phase one has been sold out of a new development that is yet to break ground although the site has been cleared. Across both social provision and the private provision there are strong indicators in planning permissions granted for great housing developments going forward."
