The number of drivers fined for road offences reached its highest post-pandemic level last year.
The Irish Independent reports the number of motorists caught driving over the speed limit was almost 169 thousand - a 23 per cent increase on the previous year.
There was a decrease in the enforcement of drink and drug-driving laws, with a three per cent reduction overall in roadside checkpoints and breath tests.
However, An Garda Síochána claims there was an increase of five per cent in drink-driving detections and a 14 per cent in drug detections last year, compared to 2024.
