The number of students accessing iScoil in the Northern Sound region has been revealed.
Figures outlined by Minister of State at the Department of Education and Youth, Michael Moynihan, included the home and centre based students for the 2024/25 academic year.
The iScoil programme is an autonomous online learning community for young people who are out of school and who require a flexible, personalised learning approach.
It aims to support re-engagement, accreditation and progression back to school, further education or training, for students aged 13 to 16 who have been out of school for six months or more.
Access to the service is only through Tusla Education Support Service Educational Welfare Officers.
In the 2024/25 academic year, 545 students accessed iScoil nationally.
Locally, the figures revealed there was 4 students accessing the service in Cavan for that period, and 12 in Monaghan.
The expected total for 2025/26 is approximately 575 students nationally, noting that the academic year is ongoing.
