The €500,000 in funding that was announced this week to support investment in recreational facilities in Kingscourt has been described as fantastic.
The funding, announced by Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht Dara Calleary, is part of a national package worth €16.5 million for 63 outdoor recreation projects across the country.
Local councillor Clifford Kelly has welcomed the funding announcement.
€500,000 will go towards the Kingscourt Railway Hub located at the former Kingscourt Railway Station complex on the R179 Carrickmacross Road on the outskirts of Kingscourt, and will provide car parking, seating, bike repair, e-bike charging, and a bus stop, in addition to provision for bike hire and landscaping and fencing.
A Part VIII planning application in respect of this development was approved in March 2025 of this year.
Cllr Kelly has described the news as wonderful for the wider Kingscourt area, adding that this will be great for tourism going forward.
