A Co Cavan homeless charity has called on people to assist them with purchasing bottles of water for the homeless.
Sonya McMahon from Help Our Homeless says lack of water is a serious problem at the moment.
Help Our Homeless based in Kingscourt was founded in 2020 by CEO Sonya Mac Mahon. She says the local charity are struggling coming in to the summer months when it comes to water.
The organisation itself was established during the Covid-19 pandemic and has continued to grow ever since. The charity's main focus is to support and improve the lives of those who are experiencing homelessness.
The local woman along with her family and volunteers operate an outreach service in Dublin 365 days a year along with feeding hundreds of homeless people outside the GPO each week. The purpose of the nightly outreach service is to reach homeless people and rough sleepers on the North side of Dublin's Inner City.
The charity also services people who are suffering from food insecurity or have fallen on hard times at the GPO on a Monday and Thursday night.
Sonya says it kills her to say no to someone who is looking for a bottle of water, adding that it is an essential need and basic right for a human. She says it's heart-breaking that this is the way some people have to live.
