A local councillor has called out online abuse towards Gardai and elected members.
Independent Councillor in Monaghan, Seamus Treanor says he is very concerned by the heightened level of abuse online that is being directed towards An Garda Síochána and elected members.
He says its needs to end and the Monaghan councillor believes abuse like this will hinder people considering a career in the force or in politics.
Cllr Treanor confirmed that he has received abuse in recent weeks online and in person.
The long-time councillor says Gardai are on call 24/7 365 days a year and he says something needs to be to stop anonymous accounts abusing Gardai on a personal level.
