A local councillor is highlighting an extra top up payment that's available to some social welfare recipients.
Cllr TP O'Reilly says many people may not realise that they could be entitled to extra top up payments along with their main social welfare payment.
One of these is the Living Alone Increase which provides an extra €22 per week to those living alone and receiving a qualifying payment. It is available to people over and under 66 depending on the type of benefit they receive such as State Pension Disability Allowance or Invalidity Pension.
Cllr O'Reilly says you may still qualify even if you live in a granny flat, sheltered accommodation or occasionally have someone to stay for security or support. The local councillor says this amounts to over €1100 a year which he says, would make a real difference.
