Local senator raises concern regarding septic tank failure rates

Pauline Tully was speaking in the Seanad following a recent EPA report which indicated more than half of local septic tanks are failing inspections locally.

A local senator has raised concerns surrounding the number of septic tanks failing inspections in the Northern Sound region.
Pauline Tully was speaking in the Seanad following a recent EPA report which indicated more than half of local septic tanks are failing inspections locally.
According to the EPA, there was a 52% failure rate in Co. Monaghan in 2025.

Meanwhile in Co. Cavan, there was a 56% failure rate last year.
1,466 Domestic Waste Water Treatment System (DWWTS) inspections were completed by local authorities last year.
Speaking in the Seanad Senator Tully highlighted the dangers of a septic tank not working.
