Monaghan family to meet with Taoiseach over son's death in 2011

'23-year-old Shane O'Farrell was killed while cycling near his home in Carrickmacross on the 2 of August 2011'

The family of a young Monaghan man who was killed by a hit-and-run-driver who should have been in jail at the time will meet the Taoiseach later today to urge for a public inquiry into his death.

23-year-old Shane O'Farrell was killed while cycling near his home in Carrickmacross on the 2 of August 2011. The O'Farrell family has long campaigned for a public inquiry into the circumstances leading to his death.

Shane's parents Lucia and Jim and his four sisters will meet Taoiseach Micheál Martin and Minister for Justice Helen McEntee at Government Buildings this afternoon. Meanwhile, Judge Gerard Haughton led a scoping exercise review to examine whether a public inquiry was necessary and if so, to determine its terms of reference.

The work was completed on the 1st of June this year and an advance copy was furnished to the O'Farrell's and the Minister. The report will be presented to Cabinet before being published shortly.
