Monaghan has the lowest number of tourism beds in the country. The issue was raised in the Dáil by Cavan-Monaghan Sinn Fein TD, Cathy Bennett.
According to the Minister for Tourism, there are currently 948 registered bedspaces available in Monaghan. While in Cavan, there are 2,657 registered tourist beds.
According to the Minister, the Ukraine war had an major affect on the availability of beds, with 13 per cent of all Fáilte Ireland stock taken up at the peak. That figure now stands at 7 per cent nationally.
