A Co Monaghan man has praised the Healthy Age Friendly Homes Programme.
The Healthy Age Friendly Homes Programme is a nationwide initiative that supports people who are 65 years of age and older to live independently in their own homes for longer.
The initiative is funded by the department of health and is a free service.
Gerry Casey from Monaghan is a user of the Healthy Age Friendly Homes Monaghan programme.
Speaking on today's Joe Finnegan Show, Gerry Casey described himself as a "social person" who contacted Monaghan County Council when he first heard about the programme to get a better understanding of what it was.
The local man has never looked back and has encouraged anyone to reach out to the service as there is plenty of help out there, particularly when it comes to advice on what your entitled to and assistance when it comes to filling out forms and applying for grants.
Gerry credited the service for making a huge difference to the lives of both himself and his 95-year-old mother who he lives with.
He also believes that there is a huge gap that needs filling when it comes to people knowing what initiatives are available to them and knowing how to apply:
