A Monaghan Senator has said he believe the party has two high-quality potential candidates to put forward for the presidential election.
The nominations to become the party's candidate close this evening, with a decision set to be revealed next Tuesday.
In a statement, former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern announced that he would not be contending for the nomination.
It leaves MEP Billy Kelleher and Jim Gavin in the race for the Fianna Fail's support to be put forward for president.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan show this morning, Senator Robbie Gallagher said he is waiting to hear what both candidates have to say.
