Coláiste Dún an Rí students in Kingscourt have garnered national success for a project that TY students have completed in recent weeks.
Students were placed 2nd overall in the group category in the art competition RTÉ This is Art!
According to the school's art teacher Ms Emma Carter they were up against countless other schools across Ireland which was a tremendous achievement.
Their sculpture titled 'Demersal' was made entirely out of recycled materials and depicts sea creatures. Using discarded plastics and found objects, the piece mirrors the textures and forms of sea creatures highlighting how human waste often ends up in their habitat.
The motto for this year’s TY group is ‘Embrace Change’ and Demersal emphasizes the importance of looking after our sea by reminding us that our everyday actions have lasting impacts
Ms Carter says the sculpture represents dedication and collaboration between TY students in Coláiste Dún an Rí.
Meanwhile, student Caolan Monaghan outlines some of the work to bring the project to fruition.
