There was over 70 business closures across the Northern Sound region in 2025.
That's according to figures released by the Department of Enterprise, of companies registered with the Companies Registration Office (CRO).
This does not include sole traders or unincorporated entities.
Figures showed that in Co. Cavan 36 businesses ceased trading in 2025.
This included 34 voluntary strike offs, a total liquidation, and a voluntary member's closure.
Meanwhile, in Co. Monaghan 40 businesses ceased trading last year.
37 of these were voluntary strike-offs, and three were voluntary member's closures.
According to Minister for Enterprise, Peter Burke, businesses can close for a variety of reason.
The information available to the CRO relates to filings of those companies who wish to be voluntarily struck off the companies register and those notifying the CRO when entering liquidation.
Voluntary strike-off is available where a company either ceases to trade, or has never traded, has no assets in excess of €150 and has no outstanding creditors.
The Minister noted that liquidation covers situations where a company may be solvent, and pursue a members' voluntary liquidation, or insolvent and is subject to a creditors' voluntary liquidation or a Court ordered liquidation.
