A local senator has called for an update on the redevelopment of a Co. Cavan town.
Senator Robbie Gallagher called for an update on the progress for the Kingscourt Town Centre regeneration project.
Speaking in the Seanad today, Senator Gallagher asked the Minister for Rural and Community Development
In 2024, the town received funding of €10.4 million for the regeneration project.
The project has received planning permission to proceed, but Senator Gallagher asked the minister when works can begin.
The Minister told Senator Gallagher that an indicative date of Q1 2028 has been set by Cavan County Council.
Senator Gallagher outlined what the town has to offer.
He said: "Kingscourt is a town with a population of approximately 3,000. Its a thriving business town, a friendly town.
"It has a great mix of local business, some of them very well known, and also a strong retail mix in the town as well.
"It has a brand new school, and it is home to Cabra Castle Hotel, Dún na Rí forest park, and a Greenway stretching along the disused railway line through Nobber and Navan," he added.
