There’s been a positive development over the future of Kilnaleck Garda Station.
It was confirmed yesterday at the local community safety partnership that a new full time Garda is now working in the community.
The confirmation was made by Superintendent Gavin O’Reilly who said the member of the force has been on the beat since last week.
The news comes following on from the downgrading of the station in January of last year.
Local Minister of State, Niamh Smyth has welcomed the news.
Speaking to Northern Sound, the Co. Cavan woman said that the community of Kilnaleck feel the warmth of a Garda presence.
Minister of State Smyth said: "Delighted that as of June 8th, there is a full time community Guard in place at the station.
"The residence and community is like every other community across the country. They feel the warmth and presence of a Garda Station, that their door is open, to share information, report an incident, report concerns.
"All Gardaí will know, the intelligence you can gather from citizens in the local area is invaluable," she added.
