A tender for a new solar farm in Cavan has been published.
The proposed works are looking to build the farm over the top of a capped section of landfill at Corranure Landfill.
Corranure Landfill is located within the townlands of Corranure and Lismagretty adjacent to the Cavan-Cootehill Road. The landfill began accepting non-hazardous waste a number of years ago, however it is now reaching capacity. Proposed works include putting a cap across a section of it and developing a solar farm across the top. In order to facilitate this, a Cavan County Council report recommended that the landfill be extended into adjacent lands to allow for it to continue its use as a soil recovery facility for non-hazardous soils and sludges. The tender is seeking to appoint a consultant to provide designs, engineering, planning, and environmental services. This would include completing topographical surveys of the land, engaging with An Bórd Pleanála, carrying out environmental risk assessments and other services.
The contract would last for a maximum period of 5 years.
Submissions close on the 7th of July.
