Tributes have been paid to former Co Monaghan councillor John Keenan who has died.
The popular community man passed away unexpectedly at his home surrounded by his family yesterday.
Mr Keenan was elected in 2004 to Monaghan County Council for Fine Gael and missed out being re-elected in 2009 by the narrowest of margins.
He was also heavily involved in vintage vehicles being the current chairman of Lisdoonan vintage and heritage club. He was a former president of the Irish Vintage Engine and Tractor Association also.
One tribute online said he was a true gentleman and a great ambassador for vintage all over the country.
While another said, John was an excellent councillor who served his constituents at all times.
A post online said John excelled in as a public representative, adding that he had a tremendous dedication to his community. The restoration of the Tin Chapel in Laragh is just one of the many achievements
While so many vintage clubs took to social media to pay tribute to John, Eugene Markey, President, of the Breffni Vintage Club said he was an exemplar of what a community man should be. Hardworking, respected, kind, patient and understanding. His involvement with and commitment to the vintage movement was extraordinary.
There is an old adage " we will not see his likes again" and it is absolutely applicable here to John. The fact that he was a gentleman was just another string to his bow.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
