Local TD Cathy Bennett has welcomed Government confirmation that there will be two separate domestic abuse refuges in Cavan and Monaghan.
Deputy Bennett confirmed that the plan going forward will see the creation of two separate refuges for the region. It was previously feared that only one refuge facility would be shared between Cavan and Monaghan.
The Cavan-Monaghan region is a priority area for refuge development under the Government's Zero Tolerance strategy.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Deputy Bennett welcomed the news.
Despite this, she says the Government's progress to date in actually delivering the needed refuge spaces has been lacklustre at best.
Deputy Bennett urged the Justice Department to commit to local communities and to right the wrongs of past governments to deliver adequate refuge for the women and children of both counties Cavan and Monaghan.
