A Monaghan councillor has called on Fine Gael Minister for Agriculture Martin Heydon to explain why his Department has refused two separate requests to meet with councillors in the Ballybay Clones Municipal District. At a recent municipal district meeting, Cllr Sinead Flynn tabled a motion, seconded by her party colleague Cllr Pat Treanor, demanding answers from the Minister.
She says the failure of the Department to engage lies squarely at the Minister's door, and that he is ultimately responsible for both the Department and the TB programme. Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr Flynn said that the voices of farmers in Co Monaghan must be heard. Cllr Flynn added that the government must take the issue of TB seriously and give a real commitment that an effective TB eradication programme will be put in place:
